How to Get Giant BTs

EX Capture Grenade【Death Stranding2 / DS2】

You can capture a Giant BT by reducing its health gauge to red and then throwing an EX Capture Grenade into its mouth.

If you use a previously captured Giant BT during battle, the enemy Giant BT will always be drawn toward the summoned one, making it difficult to throw a Grenade into its mouth. For this reason, it’s recommended to fight without summoning a Giant BT whenever possible.

Also, if you throw an EX Capture Grenade into the mouth of an already captured Giant BT and defeat it, you’ll simply receive more chiral crystals than usual.

How to Encounter Giant BTs

Go to a location where Giant BTs appear

Giant-Bt in the F3 Crater【Death Stranding2 / DS2】

In certain locations, simply passing through will trigger the appearance of a Giant BT.
The type is fixed, and the Giant BT appears immediately, making it easy to capture.

F3 Crater【Death Stranding2 / DS2】
F3 Crater

In particular, at the crater where F3 used to be, you can obtain Beast-type, Ray-type, Titan-type, Whale-type, and Giant Crab-type Giant BTs.
Generally, the Giant BTs that appear are ones you’ve previously defeated.
Even after defeating a Giant BT in the crater, another one will spawn randomly over time.
It’s recommended to place a safe house or a transponder in the crater to make hunting and capturing easier.

Additionally, the crater becomes easier to navigate using a Floating-type BT, which becomes available through the final order from “The Adventurer.”
Therefore, it’s best to raise your connection level with the Adventurer and complete that order first (although Giant BTs will still appear even if the order hasn’t been completed).

Get caught by a Gazer and be taken away by a Hunter

Hunter

When you come into contact with a Gazer on the map, a Hunter will appear and drag you to a Giant BT.
The type of Gazer generally doesn’t matter—whether it’s gold or red, the Hunter will still take you to the Giant BT.

However, if the Hunter that appears after contact is Gold, it will not take you to the Giant BT. Instead, it results in a game over, so be careful.

Also, if you come into contact with a Watcher, no Hunter will appear. Instead, a voidout will occur, and no Giant BT will spawn—so make sure to avoid them.

There are eight types of Giant BTs that can be captured.

1. Dolphin-type(Dolphis)

Dolphin-type(Dolphis)【Death Stranding2 / DS2】

Dolphin-type Giant BTs can appear in multiple locations.
They spawn after you come into contact with a Gazer at one of the following locations and are taken away by a Hunter.

  • Weapons Factory north of The Data Scientist
  • Building Site North of the Former Geophysics Research Lab [Mexico]
  • Desert Area South of Ciudad Nudo de Norte (C1) [Mexico]

2. Octopus-type(Octopoid)

Octopus-type(Octopoid)【Death Stranding2 / DS2】

There are two locations where Octopus-type Giant BTs can appear.

  • Touch a Gazer near the Bridge Ruins to the East of The Ghost Hunter and allow a Hunter to take you away.
  • Spawns directly below the cliffs east of The Fisherman or south of The Metagenomicist.

4. Hand-type(Kheir)

Hand-type(Kheir)【Death Stranding2 / DS2】

There are two locations where Hand-type Giant BTs can appear.

  • Along the snowy mountain near the plains by the Mine North of Tar Lake
  • The desert area between the C1 South Distribution Center and The Bokka [Mexico]

The plains near The Architect are difficult to access due to the presence of Watchers, so it’s easier and recommended to cross the river from the Mine North of Tar Lake.

5. Ray-type(Raia)

Ray-type(Raia)【Death Stranding2 / DS2】

You can encounter Ray-type Giant BTs by touching a Gazer near the ruins of an apartment complex in the valley between the Eastern Environmental Observatory and The Chronobiologist. A Hunter will appear and take you to the BT.
They also spawn inside the crater where F3 used to be.

6. Titan-type(Gigas)

Titan-type(Gigas)【Death Stranding2 / DS2】

You can fight a Titan-type Giant BT during the final order from The Ghost Hunter, but once you complete the order, you won’t be able to rematch it in the same location.

For a rematch, the Titan-type Giant BT will spawn inside The Crater where F3 was located. If you haven’t captured it yet, this is the place to go.
Please note that this is still being verified, but the Titan-type does not seem to appear in the crater until you complete the Ghost Hunter’s order. So, be sure to complete that order first.

When you use a captured Titan-type Giant BT in battles against Dolphin-type, Octopus-type, Beast-type, Hand-type, or Ray-type Giant BTs, the fight will instantly end with a voidout regardless of the enemy’s health.
In this case, no chiral crystals will be generated from the enemy, so be careful.

7. Whale-type(Cetus)

Whale-type(Cetus)【Death Stranding2 / DS2】

The Whale-type Giant BT can be battled during the final orders from the Fisherman or The Adventurer.
However, a rematch at the lake near the Fisherman’s location is not possible.

For a rematch, the Whale-type Giant BT will spawn inside the crater where F3 was located. If you haven’t captured it yet, this is the place to go.
Please note that this is still being verified, but the Whale-type does not seem to appear in the crater until you complete the Fisherman’s order. So, be sure to complete that order first.

8. Giant Crab-type(Megalocarcinus)

Giant Crab-type(Megalocarcinus)【Death Stranding2 / DS2】

The Giant Crab-type Giant BT must be battled during Main Order No. 047 in Chapter 14 of the story.
After completing the order, a rematch at the same location is not possible.

For a rematch, the Giant Crab-type Giant BT will spawn inside the crater where F3 was located. If you haven’t captured it yet, this is the place to go.
Please note that this is still being verified, but the Giant Crab-type does not appear in the crater until after the story battle. So, be sure to advance the story first.

Conclusion: You cannot rematch the Skull-type Giant BT.

Even capturing just one Giant BT makes battles against Giant BTs much easier, so we recommend capturing at least one.

Personally, I find the Whale-type and Giant Crab-type to be the strongest and most recommended!

By the way, despite searching extensively, I was unable to rematch the Skull-type Giant BT from Order 005. If you’re planning to take photos, be sure not to forget!
